Yardarm and Kustom Signals Join Forces To Deliver Holster Activated Body-Worn Video

Kustom will offer a Yardarm Holster Aware enabled Vantage Video System that auto-activates body-worn cameras when an officer’s firearm is unholstered.

Alpharetta, GA and Lenexa, KS – May 24, 2017 – Yardarm Technologies, Inc., a technology leader of public safety Internet-of-Things (IoT) solutions for law enforcement, private security and the military, today announced the signing of a distribution agreement for Kustom Signals to resell the Yardarm Holster Aware™ sensor.  The jointly developed solution enhances Kustom’s Vantage Body Worn Video system by adding automatic record activation upon weapon unholstering.

The Yardarm Holster Aware sensor immediately alerts connected devices when an officer’s weapon is unholstered.  The sensor interoperates with the Kustom Signals Vantage BWV to ensure crucial and decisive data is captured, giving law enforcement agencies confidence that best practices for recording events associated with the use of an officer’s weapon are being followed.

“We want law enforcement officers, and agencies, to feel confident that when an officer is forced to use their firearm, they won’t be forced to make a decision between activating their body camera and protecting themselves or the public, enabling officers to focus on what matters most,” said Kirsten Kliphouse, chief executive officer of Yardarm.  “Yardarm sensors are designed to be quickly and easily installed into existing equipment, eliminating the need for departments to purchase new holsters or weapons.”

The Kustom Signals Eyewitness Vantage Body-Worn Video solution supports HD (1080p & 720p) as well as SD video resolution allowing agencies to select the video resolution and storage that best meets their needs.  Vantage also offers excellent low light capability, including a configurable day/night mode and optional IR LEDs.  Agencies can decide to record with sensitivity similar to the human eye or capture even more detail with the optional IR feature.  Simple operation is a benchmark, allowing officers to focus on the task at hand and not their camera.

Upon weapon unholstering, the Vantage body-worn camera automatically begins recording.  If configured with pre-event recording the camera will capture up to 30 seconds of video prior to drawing of the weapon.  The camera actively records until manually turned off. Yardarm Holster Aware supports most tactical firearm holsters and TASER holsters and can be installed in minutes.
